COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SORBENT, OIL (ROLL, SWEEP, PAD)
This specification is approved by the Commissioner, Federal Supply
Service, General Services Administration, for the use of all Federal Agencies
1. Scope. This CID covers oil sorbents for picking up of small oil spills.
2. Classification. The oil sorbents shall be of the following types and classes:
2.1 Type
Type I- Roll
Type II- Sweep
Type III- Pad
2.2 Class
Class 1- Reusable
Class 2- Non-reusable
3. Salient characteristics.
3.1 Material. The sorbents shall be non-toxic to aquatic life, and shall not pollute water or shorelines, or react with oil.
3.2 Oil adsorption ratio (all types and classes). The oil adsorption ratio shall not be less than 11 grams (g) of No. 2 Fuel Oil per gram of sorbent, and the sorbent shall retain its original form when tested in accordance with ASTM F 726. Class 1 reusable sorbent shall be reused a minimum of five times while retaining its original form, and maintain no less than 60 percent of its oil absorption capacity.
