The adhesives shall be a minimum of 0.001 inch (0.025 mm) dry film. The adhesive shall have a suitable characteristics of flexibility and tackiness for the purpose intended. The adhesive shall require no moisture, heat, or other preparation prior to use of the finished plastic sheet to develop manual pressure-sensitive adhesion. The adhesive side of the plastic sheet shall be covered with a suitable release paper backing. The adhesive shall have a minimum peel of 1 lb./in. width when tested in accordance with ASTM D 3330, Method A.
3.4 Finish. Class 1 plastic sheets shall have a polished finish on both sides. Class 2 plastic sheets shall have a matte finish on one side.
3.5 Surface characteristics. Class 2 plastic sheets shall be capable of accepting No. 2 pencil lines on the matte side and subsequent erasure (soft, non-gritty eraser) without appreciable change of color of the erased surface, smudging, or ghosting. Class 2 plastic sheets shall be capable of accepting ink lines (black waterproof drawing ink) on the matte side and subsequent erasure (soft, non-gritty eraser) with no appreciable spreading, feathering, ragged edges, or skips.
3.6 Workmanship. The plastic sheet shall be free from ragged edges, die lines, cracks, holes, pits, gel marks, blisters, discolorations, and other defects which would affect the appearance and serviceability of the item. The material shall be uniform in color, transparency or opacity, finish, density and other physical properties. The terms cited in this paragraph shall be as defined in ASTM D 883.
3.7 Measurement system. The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values stated in parentheses are for informational purposes only.
3.8 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within tolerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, and all other requirements of this document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the specification preparing activity for changes to this document.
4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.
4.1 Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580, as amended, to the maximum extent practicable.
