DETAILED SPECIFICATION
BAFFLE AND INERTING MATERIAL, AIRCRAFT FUEL TANK
This specification is approved for use by the Department of the Air Force and is available for
use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for a reticulated polyurethane foam for explosion
suppression in aircraft fuel tanks and dry bay areas (cavities).
1.2 Classification. The baffle and inerting material is classified as follows:
Orange, 1.8 lbs/ft3, nominal 10 pores per inch, polyester
Type I
Yellow, 1.3 lb/ft3, nominal 15 pores per inch, polyester
Type II
Red, 1.3 lbs/ft3, nominal 25 pores per inch, polyester
Type III
Dark Blue, 1.3 lbs/ft3, nominal 15 pores per inch, polyether
Type IV
Light Blue, 1.3 lbs/ft3, nominal 25 pores per inch, polyether
Type V
